Overview: The nCBT research team developed nCBT in accordance with the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) behavioral intervention development model (Onken et al., 2014; Onken, 2022). The research team refined nCBT consistent with Stage 1 of the NIH model through conducting a series of early studies that have explored clinician and client belief in the effectiveness of nCBT following implementation (Field et al., 2016), factors that influenced sustained use of nCBT by clinicians and clients (Field et al., 2017), and treatment fidelity evaluation following a three-day nCBT training (Field et al., 2019). The research team is currently conducting a single-subject study into the length of time required for maximum benefit to alleviate anxiety in an adult population. In a prior study, clinicians who were implementing nCBT indicated that they believed nCBT had most relevance for anxiety disorders (Field et al., 2016). Consistent with efficacy testing that occurs in Stage 2 of the NIH model (Onken et al., 2014), the research team is preparing to conduct a first randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of nCBT for anxiety in a controlled setting. Another study is also being planned that investigates the utility of augmenting treatment-as-usual in community settings with psychoeducational groups on the Waves model in a Spanish-speaking population.
